Funga Alafia-Welcome is an orginal art quilt by Aisha Lumumba.

“A welcome song of the Yoruba, one of the main tribes in Africa, is Funga Alafia. This song, written in the traditional Yoruban language, is sung to welcome new people and visitors. It is seen as a song of joy, friendship, and peace. The first line of the song is, ‘Funga Alafia, Ashe, Ashe.’ In this song, ‘Ashe’ refers to a spiritual energy that is strong and peaceful. A part of the song is also sung in English, telling the visitors they are welcomed with open arms,” according to Ask.com. It is also taught to many children and young adults in the United States.

This quilt is a celebration of the joy expressed in the dance. The ladies are appliqued on an improvisational background.

Professionally machine quilted. The binding is sewn to the front and hand stitched to the back of the quilt. It includes a sleeve for hanging on the back. Made in a smoke free pet free environment.
